One of the most famous couples in the music biz surely needs some serious security.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z do have bodyguards. Beyonce’s main bodyguard is Julius de Boer. Jay-Z’s bodyguard used to be Norman Oosterbroek, although he was fired by the couple for “lewd behavior” back in 2012. He died the following year after being tasered by police. When touring, the couple uses substantially more security personnel, and when at home, they are protected within their gated community.
Read on to learn more about the security detail of the famous couple, including bizarre behavior, rumors of an affair, and more.
Julius de Boer
Julius de Boer started working for the celebrity couple back in 2009. He’s from The Netherlands and got the job through his late associate Norman Oosterbroek, who he met in college (more on him later).
Writing for a Dutch newspaper, several years ago, de Boer talked about what it means to defend Beyoncé:
“They are often long hours. I am in this position very happy. I really enjoy my function, a day of work is long, where you have to pay attention to everything, and stay paying attention to everything.
[…] You should always think three steps ahead, follow a schedule, call ahead to destinations, etc. It really is best that a security person explore the destination beforehand.
In past years I have traveled all continents, mostly in private jets and traveled in the most luxurious hotels stayed. [As a Dutchman, I] had to learn to cope and adapt.
Adaptability, in physical and psychological terms, is the main characteristic that you must possess. I met my boss Norman Oosterbroek in college and he [protects] Jay-Z.”
An Alleged Affair
According to an anonymous source, Jay-Z suspected his wife and her bodyguard were getting a little too close for comfort.
The secretive source reported the following in 2014:
“Jay definitely thinks that there was and may still be something romantic going on between Bey and Julius. He wanted to fire Julius last February, but Beyonce said— ‘Julius isn’t going anywhere.’”
Of course, without confirmation from either star, the anecdotal evidence must be taken with a pinch of salt.
The source added that Beyoncé and de Boer had been spending a lot of time together and that he’d even spent the night in her hotel room.
Despite the allegations of straying from the marital bed, de Boer is still employed by the couple—unlike de Boer’s ex-boss, who was fired months before his untimely death.
The Deceased Defender
In September of 2013, Norman Oosterbroek was killed by police after they deployed a taser. The 43-year-old had broken into a neighbor’s home and proceeded to punch the resident, while naked. He was witnessed taking drugs by the terrified owner who called the police.
Oosterbroek was nicknamed the Dutch Giant, due to his 6ft 5in, 280lb stature. The Miami-Dade police were forced to neutralize the threat with the use of a taser, and unfortunately, he died a short while later in hospital.
Oosterbroek once guarded Lady Gaga among other celebrities
After his death, it came to light that the celebrity couple had in fact fired the bodyguard a few months earlier, due to bizarre and lewd behavior.
The ex-bodyguard had hired a pros****te in Las Vegas, while he was supposed to be protecting the family. He also took photos and made a video of a certain lewd act that involved a family passport.
The couple, who trusted Oosterook “with their lives,” was understandably outraged and disgusted by his actions, and promptly fired the bodyguard.
It’s understood that the disgraced Dutchman struggled to find work in the months afterward and began using drugs, which he had been admitted to rehab for in the past.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z are said to have entered an agreement with a publication the previous year, when the bodyguard was fired, in order to cover-up the story.
Unfortunately, the accusations came to be public knowledge after the unfortunate death of Oosterook.
