Welcome back to CelebMix YouTuber of the Week, a weekly feature where we celebrate one of our favorite content creators on the internet. Last time we featured sWooZie, and this week we are crowning Ryan Higa, otherwise known as “nigahiga,” as CelebMix’s YouTuber of the week!

Who is Ryan Higa?

Ryan Higa is considered to be one of the OG YouTubers, since he has been making videos on YouTube for over a decade. His first videos to go viral were the “How to be” series, which are videos where Ryan and his best friend Sean showed their viewers ‘how to be’ gangster, emo, and ninja. Ever since he started the series, fans have persistently requested Ryan to make more. Now fast forward to ten years later, Ryan has remade fan favorite “How to be Ninja” with “How to be Ninja 2.0.”

Although Ryan first started the channel with his friend Sean, he now has the Ryan Higa Production Company (RHPC), who all contribute to the nigahiga channel. As a group, the RHPC come up with funny, creative, and original video ideas that receive millions of views each.

Some types of videos that the team creates are parodies, skits, music videos, and more. Fans especially love the “Dear Ryan” videos, where fans send in requests and messages to Ryan. He and the RHPC then act out their requests.

Ryan is also of Asian descent, as well as many members of the RHPC. He and the team have spoken about how important it is for Asians to be represented in the media.

Another thing to know about Ryan is that last year, he recruited David Choi, Philip Wang, Justin Chon, and Jun Sung Ahn to create a parody K pop group named BgA. Although it was meant as a joke, fans loved the group’s debut video so much that Ryan reunited BgA and made a second. Their second single, titled “Who’s is Gonna Be?,” became the top song on iTunes under the K Pop category, surpassing popular Korean acts BTS, GOT7, and MONSTA X.

Over a decade after starting his channel, Ryan and his friends continue to make funny and creative videos. As of September 2017, the nigahiga channel has over 20 million subscribers and over 3 BILLION video videos.

Most recently, Ryan also released his very first book titled “How to Write Good” which is now available on Amazon’s UK and US website.

Why should you watch Ryan Higa’s videos?

Ryan Higa and his friends create all kinds of videos that are sure to make any viewer laugh. The team puts all its effort into making each video, and it shows. If you go to Ryan’s second channel, HigaTV, you can see behind-the-scenes of all of the nigahiga videos. It takes days, even weeks, for each video to reach its final product because of all the details each project requires, such as location, props, script, and editing. That is why so many fans have praised the RHPC because of all the hard work they do to give their viewers good, quality videos.
