Lighthouse Chapel, possibly the most authoritarian run-church in the entire country, has been dragged for behaving like a bitter ex in a car dispute with a former bishop.
Kwame Yirenkyi Ampofo was a former bishop of the church who was sacked in 2022 following a dispute.
Prior to that, he had been given a used Chevrolet Tahoe in 2016 after the church’s first lady, Mrs. Adelaide Heward-Mills, used it from 2013 to 2016.

Kwame Yirenkyi Ampofo said the church officially gifted him the car in 2022 as part of a compensation package when he was sacked. He had served the church since 1995 – was appointed a lay pastor in 1999 and resigned from his work to work full-time for the church in 2006. He was ordained a reverend minister in 1997 and consecrated a bishop in 2017.
However, following his dismissal, the bishop had gone on social media to hit back at the church over some misinformation he claims is being peddled about him.
This obviously did not go down well with Chairman Dag who ordered the retrieval of the car from the Bishop.
The church had never officially transferred ownership to him hence when he refused to return the car he was reported to the police.
A lawyer for the church said in a letter to Bishop Ampofo that because he claims the car is part of his compensation package, he did not see it as a gift hence the church are also taking back their gift.

“By your decision to take the car as compensation, instead of a gift, you have expressly repudiated the offer of gift to you, compelling our client to accept your repudiation and, thus, nullifying the offer of a gift,” a letter from the church’s legal representatives to the man of God read, in part.
