Kristen Bell is co-starring in the Melissa McCarthy comedy The Boss, out April 8th. She plays an exec in Melissa’s company who helps Melissa’s character get back on her feet again after losing her empire. The trailer made me laugh a few times, but I didn’t consider seeing it in the theater until I saw the red band trailer, which makes it seem bawdier and possibly hilarious. Bell was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s show this week, where she gushed about working with Peter Dinklage. I don’t know what Dinklage’s role is, but you can see him engage in some sword fighting (not a euphemism) at about 1:55 into the restricted trailer.
Anyway Bell seemed pretty sincere when she described Dinklage as a kind of super smart intelligent charismatic enigma. I don’t doubt that’s how he is in person but it was cool to hear.
When [Kristen Bell] got the opportunity to work with one of the HBO show’s stars, Peter Dinklage, in Universal Pictures’ upcoming comedy The Boss, she had a tough time keeping her chill. “Peter is my favorite because, first of all, he is charisma personified. He had everyone on our set eating out of his hand. He’s always sitting on set vaguely listening to us chatter and doing The New York Times crossroad puzzle—and not the Monday one! The Sunday one!” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday. “He’s hyper intelligent and he’ll throw out a witty comment every now and again.” Bell added that she and co-star Melissa McCarthy were both “desperate” for clues about the popular series’ sixth season, but Dinklage “just toyed with us.”
Because they loved working with Dinklage so much, they kept a Tyrion Lannister figurine by the monitors. Later on, someone on set placed a Princess Anna doll next to it. Bell, who voiced the princess in Disney’s Frozen, may or may not have put the two toys in uncompromising positions. “I’m not saying I put them in these positions,” the actress said, “but I’m not saying that I didn’t.” Jimmy Kimmel showed photos from her Instagram account, saying, “These are adults at work.” Bell added that Dinklage “didn’t know” about the toys. “I tried to play it very cool around him.”
Bell also talked about how she’s a huge Game of Thrones fan, to the point where she made her daughter a Game of Thrones Night’s Watch costume. Bell also claims that the day she decided to do a photoshoot “some random friend stopped by with a giant white German Shepherd. A Direwolf you guys!” Yeah I’m not buying that coincidence, she probably called her friend to bring the dog over or she planned the photo around the dog, but still it’s a cute story. I checked her Instagram for that photo but then I remembered that she doesn’t post photos of her kid and is totally anti-paparazzi photos of kids. Bell was one of the founders of the “No Kids Policy” movement, and unlike other celebrities she really walks the walk.
Also, Bell shared these photos from her Instagram of a doll of her Frozen character, Princess Anna, in compromising positions with a Tyrion Lannister figurine. She said that “I’m not saying I put them in these positions, but I’m not saying that I didn’t.” She claims Dinklage didn’t know about that, but he does now.
Here’s the video:
These are photos of Bell at the Zootopia premiere. Just no on that dress and those matchy bridesmaid shoes.
