LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — On Thursday, Billboard revealed that it had acquired the live entertainment news site Amplify Media Inc. Billboard acquired full ownership of the company in June, Amplify’s Dave Brook said.
Brooks, who has been a contributor to Billboard, will join the publication’s staff full time as a senior correspondent and along with Taylor Mims, will lead Billboard’s touring and live entertainment coverage.
As well, Amplify will continue to provide a subscription-based newsletter and website with analysis and commentary on the live touring industry.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are extremely excited to acquire Amplify,” said Billboard’s vice president of content, Ross Scarano in a press statement. “Dave Brooks is a true entrepreneur who knows the live entertainment world inside out and we are thrilled to be able to provide Billboard’s readers with more in-depth coverage of the touring industry.”
Brooks is a veteran journalist, who has covered the industry for publications such as Venues Today and the Los Angeles Times.
The deal will also see Brooks take on programming duties at Billboard’s recently rebranded Live Music Summit & Awards, which is slated to take place on November 13–14, 2018 at the Montage in Beverly Hills.
“I started Amplify because I wanted to tell stories about the live music business in a new and exciting way,” Brooks added. “We built an amazing audience, and now, with this sale, Amplify and Billboard will come together to create the most impactful platform in touring and live entertainment.”
