2017 has been a busy but successful year for Louis Tomlinson. The 26-year-old singer had everyone fall in love with him as a solo artist as he made a name for himself with songs such as ‘Back to You’ and ‘Just Like You’. CelebMix is taking a look back at some of Louis’ highlights of 2017.

Experts at Debrett’s have been identifying the most influential people in British society for almost 250 years. In 2017, people such as Prince William, Sir Andy Murray, and Victoria Beckham were on the respected list. Louis earned himself a spot on the list because of his successful debut single ‘Just Hold On’, which went to number one in the iTunes charts in 36 countries.
US Promo tour with Steve Aoki
‘Just Hold On’ featuring Steve Aoki proved that Louis Tomlinson is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to creating hit songs. The track reached 100 million streams on Spotify within the first month of its release. All of the success led the dynamic duo to do a promo tour in the United States, where they visited shows such as The Today Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and a bunch of radio stations.
The Observer
In a vulnerable interview with The Observer, we all got an insight into Louis’ life. We had the chance of getting to know him in a way we never have before. In the interview, Louis opened up about the frustration of not feeling good enough or feeling like he couldn’t contribute with anything. He also talked about not wanting One Direction to go on hiatus because he was finally feeling confident.
Louis’ fans have always known just how vital Louis was to One Direction. He provided songs that have inspired fans in ways we cannot imagine. He provided joy and laughter. He gave the band a unique and beautiful sound. He gave fans a voice – he made them feel important.
As he is continuing to grow as a solo artist we can only hope that his confidence grows with it. He has already impressed with his singles and we are sure that Louis’ upcoming album is filled with honest vulnerability, inspirational songs, and that vital uniqueness he always brought to One Direction.
‘Back to You’
One of the greatest musical collaborations of 2017 came from Louis, Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals. ‘Back to You’ was an epic summer song, which also served as an anthem for all of us who have had trouble with leaving a relationship we know isn’t good. The single has been certified silver in the UK, platinum in Australia, as well as gold in six countries.

‘Just Like You’
As a gift to his loyal fans, Louis decided to release ‘Just Like You’. The song is Louis’ way of telling his fans that even though his problems aren’t exactly the same as theirs are, he is still just like them. He wants to be able to live a life where people aren’t looking at every single move he makes with a magnifying glass and judge him. He wanted to give his fans an honest song that shows his vulnerability in a way he’s never showed before. Louis told Zane Lowe at Beats 1 Radio that “It was just important for me to write a song that could humanize me as much as possible, and that the fans could really feel like I’m just like them – honest and vulnerable and real.”
Key 103 Live
Louis was one of the headliners at Key 103 Live, where he performed with his live band for the first time. Louis wowed the audience with his performances of ‘Back to You’ and his unreleased track ‘Miss You’. In addition to this, he decided to sing the One Direction hit song ‘Little Black Dress’, which made the crowd go crazy. By the way that he has been speaking of his time in One Direction, it is clear that Louis is proud of the work he and the boys did. And although he is creating a name for himself as a solo artist, he still holds the band, and their fans, in a special place in his heart.
The MTV EMA’s
All of Louis’ hard work led to him winning his first solo award for Best UK and Ireland Act at the MTV EMA’s in November. The incredible achievement was accomplished thanks to his dedicated fans who spent hours upon hours on voting for him. They wanted to make sure that Louis’ talent was recognized in a way that he deserved – and they definitely managed that! We’re certain that this is just one of many awards Louis will receive in his solo career.

‘Miss You’
Louis’ latest single ‘Miss You’ is probably our favourite to date. As all of his other songs, ‘Miss You’ is painfully relatable. “I wrote this song about a time in my life when I was going out partying every night,” Louis said in a statement. “In hindsight throughout that time I was pretty numb and just going through the motions. Deep down it was always in the back of my mind that what I really missed was the girl that I loved.”
X Factor
Louis returned to the X Factor stage exactly one year after dedicating his performance of ‘Just Hold On’ to his late mum Johannah Deakin.
Louis was back on the stage where it all began seven years ago and his performance was a testament to the fact that hard work can get you anywhere. During his time on the show, he, sadly, didn’t get a single solo. Now he’s showing the world that he can make it on his own and that he is amazing. In the past seven years, Louis has grown immensely – both as a person and an artist. Mark our words: He will take the world by storm.

Royal Variety Performance
Louis had the honour of being asked to perform that this year’s Royal Variety Performance, where he sang his latest single ‘Miss You’. The Royal Variety Performance is an annual variety show that is held to raise money for the Royal Variety Charity. This year, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the show.
CelebMix Awards
In December, Louis was nominated for Best Collaboration (‘Back to You’) and Philanthropist of the Year at the annual CelebMix Awards. During the awards, Louis’ fans did everything they could to win these awards for Louis – words cannot describe their loyalty and love for him. After an intense month of voting, CelebMix could proudly announce that Louis had won both of the awards he was nominated for.
The award for Best Collaboration proved that Louis is a talented artist who deserves the recognition he’s getting. He is a skilled songwriter, who somehow always manages to write tracks that everyone can relate to. His voice has for some reason always been underrated but as his solo material proves; he has a beautiful tone to his voice that cannot be denied.
The award for Philanthropist of the Year was special to Louis’ fans for a different reason. Over the years, Louis has been the victim of negative headlines he did not deserve when in reality he has spent all of his time helping others. He is not the most vocal guy when it comes to defending himself or speaking about all of the incredible things he does for other people. But he doesn’t have to be. Louis uses his voice when his loved ones are being mistreated. He speaks out about things that are important to him. He helps those who need it the most. He doesn’t need newspaper headlines everytime he does something kind because that’s not what matters. All of this proves that Louis Tomlinson has a genuine heart of gold. His family knows that and so do his fans. We can only hope that Louis himself realizes this as well.
