The Jonas Brothers are back once again with a new song and this time there were a lot of easter eggs in the lyrics and video. Let’s decode them here.
The opening scene gives off major “Burnin Up” vibes. They’re sitting down talking to another man in a summer setting. Then, it zooms in to a close up of one of the boys. 0:00 to 0:06.
The next scene goes into Nick’s solo and he says the line, “Standing there with the red dress on ya.” Any JoBros fan would automatically think of his high note of “RED DRESS” from “Burnin’ Up.” 0:32 to 0:35. Also, Chopra got married in a red dress and that could be a subtle reference.
In case you forgot, here is the line on loop.
He goes on to say, “Is it me or am I just having a good year?” 0:38 to 0:42. This could be referencing his engagement and marriage to Priyanka Chopra.
In the background of this scene, you see a yellow mustang, which could also represent the car that Nick bought Priyanka about a month ago.
Joe goes on to his solo part (poor Kevin) and while dancing on the beach he sings, “I feel like Post Malone when I get home.” That line is a nod to Post Malone’s song “Better Now” where the singer mentioned the brothers in the lyrics, “And I’m rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ with my brothers like it’s Jonas, Jonas.” 1:19 to 1:23.
He goes on to sing, “Sitting there waiting like it’s Game of Thrones,” which is a reference to his fiancee Sophie Turner, who stars in the series.
The next scene has the brothers singing, “now that we’ve made it, how complicated was last year?” Does anyone remember Nick’s solo album called Last Year was Complicated? These just keep getting better. 1:25 to 1:31.
The video moves on and it zooms in on Nick buried in the sand with only his head sticking out and sunglasses on. Did this remind anyone else of when they were in the bathtubs in the “Sucker” video? The whole beach theme is also reflecting Nick’s song, “Find You.” 2:01 to 2:04.
Kevin finally gets his moment at the 2:07 mark. If you remember back in the “Camp Rock” days. Kevin’s character wanted a birdhouse and he never got it. Well if you look closely, Kevin is now in all of his glory holding two parrots on his arms. They make another appearance at 2:24, 2:30, and 2:40.
Basically, this video feels like a more grown up and sophisticated version of “Burnin Up.” The fans are older – both in real life and in the video, the brothers are wearing nicer clothes, and are happy about their lives now.
So far, The JoBros have come back on top! We can’t wait to see what else they put out.
